Grants by the Numbers

2024

The REF awarded, in 2024, over $70,000 in grants and initiatives to support the educators in the 2024-2025 school year. We were able to fund 37 projects, large and small, with at least one grant awarded at each of our schools.  Some of the initiatives we funded this year include: technologies to assist students with learning challenges, iPads to enhance learning and creativity in the classrooms, the Lincoln/Washington School wide reading event, outdoor basketball hoops at Pierrepont School, upgraded the lighting control system for the Union School drama department, the performances for the vocal music department at Union School, Rutherford High School weight room upgrades, textiles room update at RHS, read across America program, women in STEM initiatives at RHS thanks to the Casadonte Family. Thank you to all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications.  We are also thankful for the opportunity to be able to partner with the Rutherford BOE and help to fund these programs.


2023

REF Grants have been awarded and we are very pleased to announce that we were able to fund, for the first time in our Foundation’s history, over $100,000 in grants and initiatives for the 2023-2024 school year. We were able to fund 30 projects, both large and small, with these funds. Students at RHS can now continue to design and make their own clothes using new sewing machines and stools in the revitalized textiles room. A new digital scorer’s table and new gym mats at the RHS 100 gym will keep players and fans up to date with the scores and stats. The RHS marching band will be able to transport their equipment safely in a new vehicle next year.  Students in Union School math class will be solving problems on their new white board tables. Some other innovative endeavors from the Rutherford schools’ faculty and staff include women in STEM workshops for RHS young ladies and a school wide reading initiative at Lincoln and Washington Schools. 2022

REF Grants have been awarded and we are pleased to announce that we are able to fund $85,996.45  in grants and initiatives for the 2022-2023 school year. We were able to fund 25 projects with these funds. We surpassed the $85,000 mark in funding, the highest year to date.  The RHS auditorium is fully updated and equipped with a new lighting and sound system for the arts programs. This was a proposed three-year grant request, which we were able to fund immediately.  Updated graphing calculators can now be utilized by the Union School students in their math classes.  The modern volleyball poles will be installed by the fall to replace the current 40-year poles in the gym.  We would like to thank all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications.

2021

REF Grants have been awarded and we are pleased to announce that we are able to fund $25,191.68 in grants and initiatives for the 2021-2022 school year. We were able to fund 14 projects with these funds. During this school year, the pandemic halted most of our fundraising events but we were able to grant every grant proposal this year.  We would like to thank all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications.

2020

REF Grants have been awarded and we are pleased to announce that we are able to fund $80,731.50 in grants and initiatives for the 2020-2021 school year. We were able to fund 26 projects with these funds. This was a record-breaking year as we surpassed the $80,000 mark.  We were able to help bring the newest sport of lacrosse to RHS.  The RHS auditorium will also have new updated media equipment.  We would like to thank all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications.  

2019

REF Grants have been awarded and we are pleased to announce that we are able to fund over $64,000 in grants and initiatives for the 2019-2020 school year. We were able to fund 28 projects with these funds. We would like to thank all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications. It was a competitive process and we believe that the projects selected will further enhance the educational experiences of the children of Rutherford. We will be adding a feature soon to the website to showcase the great work these grants accomplish in our schools.

2018

REF Grants have been awarded and we are pleased to announce that we are able to fund over $55,000 in grants and initiatives for the 2018-2019 school year. We were able to fund 29 projects with these funds. We would like to thank all of our teachers and administrators who took the time to submit applications. We were able to fund 23 projects with these funds, including a grant contributing to the District-wide 1:1 Chromebook initiative for grades 6-12. Grant process has come to a close. We are please to announce that we are able to fund over $62,000 in grants and initiatives for the 2015-2016 school year.
